“If you’re someone who sees a boat as more than just wood and varnish—who believes each vessel holds a lifetime of memories and stories worth preserving, you’re in the right place.”
At Travels with Geordie, we’re dedicated to restoring classic wooden yachts and sharing this passion with a community that appreciates the heart and history behind each plank. This is no small task; it’s a relentless, hands-on journey demanding grit, patience, and, above all, a strong sense of community. Every step we take to bring these boats back to life is possible because of people like you. Whether you’re here to learn, connect, or support the craft, know that you’re part of a growing community committed to keeping these stories afloat.
Travels with Geordie began in 2013 as a way for Peter Knowles to keep his family updated on his travels through North America with his trusted companion, a goldendoodle named Geordie. Pulling a 1973 Airstream Argosy with a classic 1959 Land Rover, Peter’s journey took him across scenic landscapes until 2014, when he arrived in Victoria, BC. It was there that Peter rekindled his love for the water and acquired MV Geordie, then MV Kia Ora III, the first of his classic wooden motor cruisers, launching a new chapter devoted to restoring these vintage vessels with the dream of ambitious cruising adventures.
Living on a wooden boat in Victoria marks the start of Peter’s “second act.” Originally from Montreal, Peter raised his two daughters in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, where he designed and built custom homes. Now, together with his girlfriend Andrea, Peter calls Victoria’s inner harbor home for eight months of the year. The summer months see them cruising the southern Gulf Islands and the breathtaking Desolation Sound, piloting not one, but two classic wooden yachts as they continue their shared mission of preservation and adventure.
At Travels with Geordie, we’re more than just restorers; we’re keepers of history, travelers, and storytellers, connecting with a community that values craftsmanship, adventure, and the nostalgia of the sea. Thank you for being here. Whether you’re here to watch, learn, or join in, welcome aboard!
